Nishijin weaving is known for its highly-decorative and finely-woven designs, created through the use of tedious and specialised production processes. It is well-regarded for the high quality and craftsmanship of the resulting fabrics, commonly used for high-quality obi and kimono.
There is a theory that the arabesque pattern is a space-filled pattern of vines, and was originally developed from Palmetto, a continuous pattern in Greece and Rome. The arabesque, with its infinite development potential that always grows, will eventually develop even with flowers that do not have vines, such as plums and chrysanthemums.
This cloth expresses such arabesque beautifully and dramatically.
