How to create a customized bag
Here’s a mini-guide to show you numerous ways of painting the bag. Each method requires different levels of art skills; you may choose one that you are most comfortable with. You can always make changes to suit your personal preferences.
Method #1: Paint Splatter (Difficulty: Low)
Paint splatter is an art technique that can produce breathtaking masterpieces full of emotion and movement without requiring any pre-existing painting skills. This belongs to a form of abstract art, and it allows you to create a new and chic look to your handbag.
Process:
While paint splatter art tends to be freeform, there are a few different paint splatter techniques that you can explore.
Flick the bristles of the Brush
Dip the paintbrush in some slightly watered-down paint. Then, point the head of the brush toward your handbag. Simply run your finger along the edge of the brush at a close distance to the bag for small delicate splatters.
Use Two Paint Brushes
A method to create cleaner paint splatter. Try tapping your paint-covered brush with a stick, a pen, or another paintbrush to kick off your paint. By drawing the brushes together closer to the bag, you can achieve larger dots of colour. On the contrary, holding the brushes further away will create smaller splatters.
Let the Paint Flow
Once you have a decent amount of paint on your handbag, try lifting it vertically so that paint begins to drip down the surface. Once it starts dripping, you can also rotate the bag to make the drips move in different directions. You can even use a hairdryer to blast the paint in a specific direction.
Method #2: Basic Brush Strokes (Difficulty: Moderately Low)
This is another method that belongs to the form of abstract art. In 2020, abstract painting on fashion products has become more common; high-end brands are slowly, including abstract art pieces on their products. For instance, Moschino released their latest white painted leather tote bag with a few elegant blue and yellow brushstrokes on it.
Process:
There are various types of simple paint strokes you can utilise to create an abstract art look.
Thick to Thin Strokes
First press firm on the bristles. Then twist the brush and stroke up to use just the side of the flat brush. The stroke will start very thick and then gets thin.
Horizontal Stroke
Horizontal strokes can be made by painting horizontally on the same spot multiple times until you get your desired thickness.
Cross-hatching X Strokes
X strokes can be used for combining two colours. First, draw the letter “X” multiple times on the bag with the first colour, then repeat with the second colour.
Method #3: Animal prints (Difficulty: Medium)
Animal print has made its way back for being one of the fashion trends of 2020. Leopard prints, cow prints, or even zebra prints are experiencing a resurgence in popularity.
Before painting, please research a few images of the selected print for reference.
Process:
Leopard Print
First, make random brush strokes with black paint, like you are scribbling with a pencil, all over the bag. You can group the strokes in pairs so that there is more than one in print. They can be of different sizes. After adding all the black strokes on your bag, let it air dry for a while. Then, wash your paintbrush thoroughly. Next, choose another desired colour and start making random brush strokes on top or in between the black paint strokes you have just created.
Cow Print
Use black or any preferred colour to start outlining cow spot shapes all around the bag. Don’t worry about getting them right or wrong; each cow spot is of different shapes and sizes, so imitate it. After you are done, fill in those spots with the paintbrush.
Zebra Print
First, choose the desired colour of the paint. Then, draw two parallel curve lines in the centre of the bag. Next, draw another pattern of the curved edges to the left and right. Afterwards, bring a different design on the right but use the same principle and about the same width as the others. Then, draw other curves on the far right with about the same width as the others. Subsequently, bring other sliders on the left following the same structure or width but with different curvatures. Lastly, emphasise the stripes by going over the lines again with the brush.
Method #4: The Creation of Adam Artwork Print (Difficulty: High)
This print is inspired by the “The Creation of Adam” artwork by the infamous Italian, Renaissance artist, Michelangelo. However, the edition only focuses on the two hands reaching for each other. You can also choose any other well-known artworks or cartoon characters to print on your handbag. The following is the guide to print The Creation of Adam to your bag.
This method requires extra materials like a plain white paper, black pigment liner, and a pair of scissors. Before starting, please research images of The Creation of Adam for reference.
Process:
The sky
First, mix the colour of blue and white to a baby blue colour on your palette. Then, start painting the baby blue colour over the top of the bag with the brush.
The two hands
After the baby blue background is dried, start drawing the two hands with a pencil on a plain white paper. Then, cut according to the lines you drew. You will use those as stencils to paint on your handbag. Mix yellow and pink to your desired skin colour. Then, place one of the stencils on the bag and trace the outline of it with the paintbrush. Repeat for the other stencil. (Remember to measure the spacing and positions of the hands before outlining) After outlining both sides on the bag, start filling them in with the skin colour. Next, take a thin black pigment liner or use a smaller brush with black paint to outline the details of the hands. Last, use a darker shade of brown to add some shadows to appropriate areas.
The clouds
This step is optional. After painting the sky and the hands, you can add some clouds to the baby blue background. You have to use plain white paint to make random circular strokes on the surface for the base of the shadows Then, add some dusty pink colour on top of the white. Finally, add some light purple on top of the clouds.
Conclusion:
